A Gediminids' Way initiator wins mayoral elections in Khotyn

Khotyn, Ukraine, June 4, 2014 – Mykola Holovlyov won mayoral elections in Khotyn, Chernivtsi Oblast, having 50.2 percent of ballots cast by voters on May 25.

The newly-elected mayor is officially entering upon his duties tomorrow, June 5.

Mr. Holovlyov is a member of the Udar party, headed by heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko. Before the election, he served as a deputy mayor of Khotyn. In 1997, he graduated from the Podilsky State Agricultural Technical University in Kamyanets-Podilsky, Khmelnytsky Oblast.

Mykola Holovlyov was one of initiators of The Gediminids' Way project. It was he who suggested holding the Constituent meeting of the Association of Local Governments "The Gediminids’ Way" at the Khotyn Castle and worked to arrange the event.

A former amateur boxer, Mykola Holovlyov actively promotes sports development in Khotyn. Largely thanks to his efforts, in 2011 the city received a UAH 1.3 million grant from the Klitschko Brothers Foundation to restore the local youth sports school. On May 25, Vitali Klitschko was also elected a mayor – in Kyiv.
